Caste-the blade that has driven deep scars across hearts and lives. Caste-the poison that has split families. Without taking more of your time, here goes. Be prepared Prepare yourself before you go in for The Discussion. Anticipate the concerns your parents might have regarding your intercaste marriage. Write them down one by one if possible.
You must anticipate these and have counterarguments prepared. Your parents will probably react emotionally when you first tell them that you want to get married to someone from a different caste. Calmly request them to articulate any specific concerns that they have. Use your preparation to talk the matter through with them at this point. Evidence always works Take time to research as many examples as possible of happy intercaste couples and unhappy same-caste couples among your friends and acquaintances.
Use these while discussing your relationship with your parents. Try to pin down some reasons for the success or lack of it between these couples and explain how none of these reasons could be connected to caste.

Not just because it is useful for making babies, but also recreationally. It makes you happy. In a lot of ways, it keeps you sane, makes you feel excellent about yourself and reinforces your love of others. Various studies have shown that we’re having less sex than previous generations. It found that women were having sex an average of 4. Ten years ago this was 6. Where have these lust-filled liaisons disappeared to?
It doesn’t make sense if you think about the cultural attitudes of our time. We’ve been inundated with footage of actors writhing around, baring buttocks and moaning with abandon ever since. However, in the last five years, things have drastically changed; films such as Nymphomaniac and Shame and television shows like Girls and This Is England have endeavoured to tell certain often ugly truths about sexual behaviour.

Controversy[ edit ] Anthropologist Helen Fisher in What happens in the dating world can reflect larger currents within popular culture. For example, when the book The Rules appeared, it touched off media controversy about how men and women should relate to each other, with different positions taken by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd and British writer Kira Cochrane of The Guardian. Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date.
Don’t leave drinks unattended; have an exit plan if things go badly; and ask a friend to call you on your cell phone an hour into the date to ask how it’s going.
Members of so-called generation Z go to different sites for different reasons than their parents, changing the way younger people form relationships.
Communication between parents and their adult children can be difficult as they are still adjusting to a shift in the relationship. At the same time, many young adults rely on their parents for economic assistance and to make up for the financial difference between earned income and expenses. And some young employees report greater freedom in continuing to live with parents who love and support them, thus allowing the young adults to continue to experiment, transform and to define themselves as adults.
Nowhere are the differences between young men and women more apparent than in marital and relationship issues. Adults of all generations and ages continue to struggle to understand one another and define their meaningful relationships. Young adults expect marriage to last a lifetime and to meet their emotional and spiritual needs.
Marriage is viewed as an economic partnership and intimate partner relationship and not necessarily as the environment in which to bear and raise children. Young women are distrustful of their chances of finding a suitable partner, and this distrust increases with age. As a result young women are more accepting of motherhood outside of marriage. Both young men and women view cohabitating relationships as socially acceptable and economically advantageous.
Although cohabitating relationships are seen as economically advantageous, marriage is perceived as an economic liability potentially exposing the individual to economic hardship in the event of divorce. While men tend to feel more threatened by the post-divorce possibilities of alimony and child support, women feel pressure to maintain financial independence and the ability to support themselves and children.

Jennywocky Generation X I don’t think the word “we” here is appropriate, especially after you’ve admitted that your experience is likely not indicative of others. I appreciate that your last post aimed to present a more positive view of those generations younger than Gen X, although it still tends to stereotype. Also, I don’t know if it’s fair to say that they have more financial independence.
I think more is available for less to them in the entertainment realm, true; yet, look at all the people of Gen X and younger who have moved back with their parents or who are dependent on their parents because economic resources are terrible right now and jobs are scarce. I also saw a report this past week describing how Gen X is much more worse off financially than the older generations, because we got hit so bad by the downturn in economy.
We are not prepared for retirement, and our cash reserves are low. As Gen X, the whole definition of the generation the “X” is that our parents did not invest in us and left us primarily to defend for ourselves. If Gen Y and younger has issues, it did not start with them, it started with us and the lack of intervention by our own parents, the Boomer generation. In general, I see much of the looser ties in the culture to generate from the technological boom, which gave people longer hours they could stay awake; more options for their time; the possibility of relocation and job chasing; families no longer living in the spot where they had lived the past years; a diversification of the culture as technology allowed for an influx for new beliefs and ideas; etc.
US culture has been undergoing a very large shift in philosophy and cultural mores over the last years or so due to technology and the way it has introduced foreign influences as well as other priorities into the cultural discussion. This has had its pro’s and con’s. My personal opinion is that the initial cutural state had its pro’s and con’s as well, and we’re simply trading some things for other things, I don’t think things are necessarily better or worse overall when I step outside my own personal preferences.
My personal preference is that things are better, but i can see why others might disagree, depending on their priority. My experience was that “parents were too lazy to teach life to their children” long before Gen Y and Gen Z.
But men and women approach it differently. Sometimes our thoughts become a battlefield between words and emotions. The louder you speak the quieter the resolution.
